Dr. Giselle Saulnier Sholler, director of pediatric oncology research at Penn State College of Medicine and division chief of pediatric hematology and oncology at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital, began focusing on neuroblastoma after losing a patient early in her career. Neuroblastoma is an aggressive and cruelly resurgent cancer that mostly infects children under 6 years old. Dr. Sholler's mission is to change the outcomes, and she is accomplishing her goal by researching and receiving FDA approval for a drug called eflornithine (DFMO). Due to Penn State College of Medicine's commitment to research and the financial and research support from Four Diamonds, Dr. Sholler finds Penn State Health Children’s Hospital a perfect place to continue her mission and develop more clinical trials.
