Connection to Four Diamonds: Ashley is a Leukemia Survivor. We are a Four Diamonds family.
Years of Involvement: She was diagnosed with ALL in 2006. We signed up with Four Diamonds right away. Our first THON was 2007 and we will go again this year (11th year).
How are/were you involved with Four Diamonds and THON?
We have spoke at many THON events including the Hope Gala, the Knight of Diamonds and the Blue and White Ball. Going to NYC, Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C. was alot of fun for our family.
Why is the partnership between Four Diamonds and THON important? It’s pretty neat that Penn State students continue to raise money after they graduate.
What is your favorite Four Diamonds or THON memory?
We have a lot of favorite memories. One that comes to my mind is when we spoke at the Knight of Diamonds in Washington, D.C. The place was beautiful at night and overlooked the monuments. One particularly fun part that I won’t forget is when Ashley asked a Congressman to dance and my family was out on the floor with him dancing. It was a once in a lifetime experience. He also gave her a special certificate and a special gold Congressional coin.
What is your dream for Four Diamonds and THON over the next 40 years?
That it won’t exist. I pray there is a cure for cancer. If not, I hope that THON continues to support the children so they have no medical bills.
